Understanding frizz makes it so much easier to tackle. When hair is curly, fine or damaged, it tends to lack moisture. Without enough hydration, the hair shaft will actively try to absorb moisture from the atmosphere around it. That swelling of the hair shaft is what creates frizz. So the solution isn’t to fight the humidity. Instead, it’s to pack your hair with so much hydration that it simply doesn’t need to go looking for more.
That starts with a great home care routine.
Building Your Anti-Frizz Routine at Home
The foundation of frizz-free hair is a shampoo and conditioner that seals hydration into the hair fibre rather than leaving it open to the elements. Which range is right for you depends entirely on your hair type. Here’s how I break it down for my clients:
For thick, rebellious hair that needs a little extra control, I always recommend the Kérastase Discipline range. It adds just enough weight to smooth and tame without ever feeling heavy or flat. Importantly, it makes a genuinely noticeable difference to manageability day to day.
For all other hair types, the Kérastase Gloss Absolu range is my absolute go-to. It delivers up to four days of anti-frizz protection, incredible shine and a beautifully smooth finish. Looking for Longer-Lasting Results? Consider a Keratin Blow-dry
If you want something that goes beyond your daily routine and gives you genuinely smooth, low-maintenance hair for months at a time, it’s worth having a conversation with your stylist about a Keratin Blow-dry. This is one of my most popular services at Kingston. Once clients try it, they tend to come back every season without fail.
Here’s what it involves and what you can expect:
A professional smoothing service containing keratin, collagen and amino acids, the treatment works by deeply infusing the hair fibre with strengthening, smoothing activities that reduce frizz and improve manageability. It also leaves hair visibly healthier. Importantly, it doesn’t remove your natural wave or curl. It simply softens and smooths it, giving you a much more manageable version of your natural texture.
The appointment takes around three hours. Your stylist will use heated straighteners to help the treatment deeply infuse into the hair fibre. So, you will leave the salon with super straight, glossy hair that may feel a little heavier with product than usual. That’s completely normal and all part of the process.
The aftercare is important – and worth planning for. You must avoid washing your hair or tying it back for three days while the treatment takes full effect. After that, you can either come back into the salon for a reduced-price Blow-dry. Alternatively, you can wash your hair at home with a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner to reveal the full results. The difference is genuinely remarkable.
To maintain your results as long as possible, I recommend washing hair two to three times per week rather than daily. For most hair types, Pureology Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner is a brilliant sulphate-free option. It keeps hair smooth and hydrated between washes.
