Growing Great Hair

Blog

So many factors can cause hair to lose density, strength and volume. It can feel really disheartening when you notice the change. Hormones, nutrition, illness, medication and genetics can all play havoc with how our hair grows. Whilst we can’t advise on those things, we can absolutely help with everything else.

Here are my five essential steps to growing great hair. These are the products and services that will genuinley make a difference.

1. It All Starts at the Scalp

The key to growing great hair begins at the scalp. Yet it’s the part of our hair care routine most of us overlook entirely.

Booking a Scalp Assessment with your stylist is the best place to start. Your stylist will use a microscope to look closely at your hair follicles and scalp. They identify any signs of irritation, buildup, thinning or hair fall. As a result, you get a really clear picture of what’s happening and the best steps to address it.

Think of it as a health check for your hair. For just £15, it’s one of the most valuable appointments you can book.

2. Start With a Clean State

Building of oil, hair products and dead skin cells can cause hair follicles to become blocked over time. This leads to inflammation and prevents hair from growing through properly. If you’ve never thought about scalp exfoliation before, this might just be the missing piece in your routine.

Our Deep Cleanse & Exfoliate Treatment invigorates the scalp, removes build-up and leaves hair feeling light, lifted and ready to thrive. If you’re serious about hair growth, this is where to begin. Read more about our Deep Cleanse & Exfoliate Treatment here.

3. It’s Never Too Soon to Think About Prevention

Hair loss is far more common than most people realise. 1 in 4 men start experiencing thinning before the age of 21, and 4 in 10 women experience hair loss at some point in their lives. Despite this, it is still widely believed of as something that only affects men. The earlier anyone starts thinking about prevention, the better the results you’ll see.

Kérastase Genesis Serum contains the active ingredient Aminexil. This works to keep strands in the growth phase for longer. As a result, it reduces hair fall and helps the hair you have grow stronger and more resilient. It’s one of my most recommended products for clients who are starting to notice changes in their hair density.

4. Feed Your Follicles

Follicles need good blood flow to deliver the vitamins and nutrients that keep hair growing healthily. One of the simplest and most effective things you can do is massage your scalp when you wash and brush your hair. It doesn’t need to take long. However, when done consistently, it makes a real difference to circulation and follicle health.

For brushing, I always recommend the Manta Brush . It applies the perfect amount of pressure to stimulate the scalp without any harshness or unnecessary breakage, and it detangles even the most knotted hair with ease. It’s one of those tools that once you’ve tried it, you genuinely can’t go back.

5. Build Your Regime

Your scalp is an extension of the skin on your face. It deserves exactly the same level of consistent care. Just as a great skincare routine delivers real results over time, building a dedicated scalp routine to cleanse, moisturise and treat will bring noticeable, lasting improvements to the health and density of your hair.

Two ranges I love for this are the Redken Acidic Grow Full range. This is brilliant for stimulating the scalp and adding volume. The Nioxin System Kits give you everything you need for a complete scalp and hair care regime in one box. These are tailored to your specific hair type and concern. Both are available in our salons. Your stylist will always advise which is the right fit for you.
